Solar Panels for Schools Project

The Idaho Governor's Office of Energy Resources committed $2,750,000 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to install large solar electric net-metered equipment on 9 public schools in Idaho. Projects ranged from 36 kilowatts (KW) to 100 KW in size. Each project has a web based monitoring system that is available for the district to use as a teaching tool. In the West Side School District, the middle school science teacher uses the web based system in the classroom to show students how the solar panels are functioning. The solar electric system is expected to operate for 30 or more years and will enhance the educational opportunities of the students for years to come.
